Dramatis Personae

Yozerf Jonaglir: a.k.a Yozerf Trihychyl. Yozerf is the last descendent of the Aclytese Jonaglir clan, which once ruled a kingdom before being betrayed and destroyed by its allies 300 years ago. Yozerf grew up hard on the streets of a large city, and the experience left him embittered towards humans. He uses arrogance and scorn as a shield to keep all others at arm's length. But the shield protects a vulnerable heart whose greatest fear is that any attempts at friendship will be rewarded only by betrayal.

Physical Description: With his blood-red hair, bone-white skin, and silvery eyes, Yozerf is both striking and beautiful to look upon. Even though he is slender, his height (6'4") gives him an imposing presence. He dresses only in unrelieved black and carries a white sword.

Suchen Keblava: Suchen is the daughter of a wealthy southern merchant. Although she doesn't go into detail about her childhood, it is clear that her father was emotionally abusive to both her and her brother, Peddock. When Suchen was seventeen, they both fled their home, determined never to go back. Nine years later, Suchen is now the Steward of the great keep of Kellsjard, an unusual job for a woman. Despite the happiness she has found in her new home, she cannot help but feel that something is missing in her life.

Physical description: Suchen is of average height (5'4"), with long blonde hair and blue eyes. Her sword-practice with the Sworn has made her body tough and wiry rather than voluptuous. Her features are too strong to be classically pretty, but those who are drawn to that strength--like Yozerf--find her beautiful.

The Sworn: The Sworn are Lord Auglar's most trusted retainers. By Jenelese tradition, every lord picks a handful of loyal warriors who swear to protect him even at the cost of their own lives. Sworn warriors are the people a lord relies on in times when he cannot even trust his own kin.

Buudi Gyr: First among the Sworn, Buudi was once a nobleman until an affair with another man brought about his disgrace. In his forties, Buudi is much older than any of his followers. He is educated, intelligent, and generally easy-going.

Peddock Keblav: Peddock secretly fears that Auglar made him one of the Sworn as a favor to Suchen. He is defensive, insecure, and hot-headed, a combination which instantly brings him into conflict with Yozerf.

Gless, Uzco, and Dara-Don complete the Sworn.

Trethya Selista: The daughter of one of the members of the Advisory Council, Trethya has information that many would kill to contain: the truth about Queen Rozah's imprisonment at the hands of the Council. But Trethya's beautiful face and sweet nature may conceal a greater secret than anyone could ever realize.

The wolf: The wolf is Trethya's mysterious protector, appearing when she is most in need. But his true motives and nature remain unknown to anyone human.
