Prince of Ash Play ListAs I'm sure everyone knows by now, music plays a big part of the creative process for me. Below is the "sound track" I listened to while writing Prince of Ash. At the moment, I don't have a link to an iTunes mix because some of the core music isn't available via the iTunes store. "Bring Me to Life" by Evanescence - My main theme song for this book, I played it over and over while writing. I think of it as the PoA love song, from Alex's awakening from "somewhere cold" to her own life, her independence, and her sexuality, to Pook's desperate desire to believe that "there must be something more." "Going Under" by Evanescence - A song for Alex, who has had to save herself, only to find that her problems are just beginning. "Taking Over Me" by Evanescence - In the original draft of PoA, I had the book beginning in midsummer rather than late winter. For some reason, listening to this song made me realize I had to change the season. No, I don't understand it, either. "Don't Stay" by Linkin Park "Somewhere I Belong" by Linkin Park - The first song on the soundtrack, I originally heard it on the radio the same day that I came up with the concept of PoA. "Lying From You" by Linkin Park. Pook again. "Headstrong" by Trapt - "Back off, I'll take you on" "Bother" by Stonesour "Poem" by Taproot "Send the Pain Below" by Chevelle "45" by Shinedown - This song reminds me of a very specific scene in PoA. "Jumper" by Third Eye Blind - This one wasn't originally on my playlist, but at some point after I had finished PoA I heard it and thought the lyrics were perfect. Return to the Prince of Ash page.
